Making your Facebook presence attractive to employers

Facebook can be used as an effective tool to project your life, aspirations and more. Instead of using it as an information communication platform, you can actually use it to showcase your professional life. While Linkedin is traditionally used for professional and career enhancement, Facebook has a much broader reach than LinkedIn. In fact, Facebook is the most popular social networking website in the world.

Even if you’re not actively searching for a job on Facebook, you can be sure that many prospective employers will search Facebook for your name in order to evaluate your profile. This gives you added incentive to refrain from posting that drunk picture of you from last weekend. However, you can choose to be more proactive, and then actually construct your profile to appear attractive to prospective employers.

So how do you use it? Well, for one, you can meticulously craft your preferences, likes and dislikes, and hobbies to reflect what potential employers value. So instead of like a particular brand of coffee, you can state your preference for your professional trades book. Instead of proclaiming your love for a heavy metal music album, for example, youi can choose to “like” a particular philosophy book instead. You know where we’re going: be creative and make your profile exude that professional aura.

Woman searches for man on Facebook

In a curious story that appeared on the Daily Mail a few days ago, a British woman managed to track down her new-found object of affection on Facebook. When she met Martin in Ibiza, Julia was intrigued by the attractive stranger with whom she shared a fleeting kiss. Longing after her mystery man, she began to search for him on Facebook. With help from friends, she actually managed to find him.

But boy was she in for disappointment. It appeared that Martin was already involved with someone else. The deeper she delved into Martin’s personal life, the more disillusioned she became. This actually goes to show how effective Facebook can be to find information on a prospective romantic partner. In this case, Facebook may have practically saved her valuable time and energy. This shows that Facebook is increasingly turning into a valuable tool for social and interpersonal research.

Same in the britian, about 100,000 of britishers deactivated their facebook accounts this month. In the beginning of this year the facebook accounts in united kingdom reached 30 million, which is about half of the population. But from the last couple of months people suddenly stop using the website. The facebook is still growing in countries like Brazil and Maxico, where there are around six hundred million facebook users and further growth expected.

Facebook users want comment button back.

A month back facebook removed the comment button and replace it with the enter key. This change is quite confusing for the facebook users as the status bar and comment bar looks similar, but status bar has its own “share” button, and now users have to intract with both differently. Also the people are use to with the enter key as to start the next paragraph, but now if they press enter key even by mistake, comment get posted. One has to press shift+enter as to move to the next paragraph.
Also some technical problems are occuring regarding this change, the program needs a good Javascript engine to work properly, and not all the browsers have good Javascript engines like, mobile phones or some other desktop browsers. It seems the feature was not tested properly before applying.

Facebook’s forced endorsement?

Facebook’s new and updated Like button is apparently not well received by many in the social networking world. Many people are saying that the new like button forces endorsement of textual content that wasn’t intended to be endorsed in the first place.

Facebook Like Button changed majorly

Facebook has made real significant chagnes to its Like Button. Now, the Like button is more and more like its Share button. You can also share an item on the Web using the Like button, and it will get posted straight to your Facebook Wall! Is that neat or what?

But there is a downside too! You can’t edit information about the shared item. So it will post information directly from the website on your Wall. Maybe Facebook will combine the Like and Share buttons in the near future to make one streamlined button? Who knows?
